Benefits for the body through vitamin D:

Vitamin D is best known as a "bone vitamin". It plays an important role in the absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphate and thus in the mineralisation of bone tissue. However, it is also indispensable for numerous metabolic processes and the immune defence.

Supply of vitamin D:
Nutrition plays only a minor role in the supply of vitamin D. Around 80 to 90 per cent of our needs are formed in the skin by the sun (UVB rays). To do this, however, a quarter of the body surface must be exposed to the sun for 5 to 25 minutes each day during the sunny months, depending on skin type and season.

What is Vitamin D3?
There are various vitamin D compounds, the two most important being vitamin D2 and vitamin D3. Vitamin D2 is found in plants and fungi. Vitamin D3 is found in animal foods and is also the form that is formed in human skin. Both are converted in the body into the active hormone calcitriol.

Why is a combination of vitamins D3, K2 and A useful?
All three vitamins are involved in the utilisation of calcium. Vitamins D3 and A stimulate the production of certain proteins (including osteocalcin), which transport and incorporate this important mineral into bones and teeth. Without vitamin K, these proteins remain inactive. Only vitamin K puts them into a chemical form in which they can bind calcium. The main forms of vitamin K are vitamin K1 and vitamin K2. Only vitamin K2 has the described function in bone metabolism. Both forms play a role in blood clotting. The use of a product containing vitamin K should therefore be discussed in advance with a doctor or therapist if you suffer from haemophilia or are taking anticoagulants at the same time.
